2004 ALL-STAR GAME

The National League, managed by Ted Talbott of the Padres, beat the American League, managed by Dan Bayless of the Red Sox, 7-2 at Minute Maid Park on July 7, 2004.

Chipper Jones of the National League was named the MVP after hitting 2 solo homers in his first 2 at bats to give the National Leaguers a 2-0 lead and they never looked back. The National Leaguers also got good support from Manny Ramirez who went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and Vernon Wells who had 2 hits and scored twice. Once the National Leaguers had the lead, Talbott turned the game over to his pitching staff.

Curt Schillling of the American League did not fair well as he was touched up for 3 runs in 1.1 innings of work. Derek Jeter and Aubrey Huff of the American League committed the games only 2 errors.

Both Mgrs tried to get all players in the game. Only Jake Peavy from the National League did not participate.

The MVP of the game, Chipper Jones, did not stay in the game long as in his 3rd at bat, he was called out on strikes and said one too many words to the home plate ump and was tossed.
